We are excited to be recruiting for Events Assistants to support the Students' Union in organising and hosting our varied programme of events. This role would be based in our Community Zone, with links to the Activity Zone as appropriate.

The Events Assistants will play a key role in supporting the planning, promotion, and delivery of a wide range of student-focused events and activities within Student Union Venues. This is a hands-on, varied role perfect for someone passionate about creating memorable experiences, working in a fast-paced environment, and engaging with the student community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning and organisation of events in our on-campus venues, including Rubix, Hari’s Bar, The Front Room, Manor Park Social, and The Lake.
  • Support the setup, running, and break-down of events to ensure smooth execution.
  • Support event logistics including ticketing, guest lists, access control, venue and technical set ups.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards, safeguarding policies, and venue regulations.
  • Assist in the evaluation of events by gathering feedback and offering suggestions for improvements and ideas for future events.
  • Work collaboratively with student groups and engage diverse groups in events.
  • Help promote events through digital channels, printed materials, and in-person outreach, under the direction of full-time staff.
  • Ensure events are inclusive, accessible and in-line with the student’s union values and policies.

Person specification

Essential:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A positive, proactive attitude with a willingness to take initiative.
  • Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently.
  • Organised, punctual, and reliable with excellent attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and occasional late nights.
  • Commitment to promoting diversity, inclusivity, and the Union’s values.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in event support, hospitality, or customer service.
  • Knowledge of event health and safety requirements.
  • Experience working with students or within a university setting.
  • Basic First Aid or Event Management training (training can be provided).

Pay for this position will be our level 1 rate of £12.21 per hour.
