Rubix Duty Manager (External)

The Duty Manager plays a key role in the successful operation of Rubix Nightclub, ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and well-managed environment for students and guests. They will oversee the nightly running of the venue, manage staff, and uphold the highest standards of customer service, safety, and compliance with licensing laws. To apply you must have at least two years experience in hospitality and must be studying at Surrey in September 2025 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day and night-time operations of the venue, ensuring the smooth running of events.
  • Manage and support bar, security, and operational staff, providing leadership and motivation throughout shifts.
  • Ensure compliance with all licensing laws, health and safety regulations, and Union policies.
  • Act as the main point of contact for any incidents, liaising with security, first aid teams, and emergency services when required.
  • Handle customer queries and complaints in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Conduct pre-event briefings with staff and security teams to ensure smooth operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, stock, and financial transactions during shifts.
  • Ensure the venue is cleaned and maintained to a high standard before, during, and after events.
  • Assist in training new staff and supporting ongoing development for the team.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Previous experience in a supervisory or management role within a nightclub, bar, or similar hospitality venue.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team.
  • Knowledge of licensing laws, health and safety regulations, and best practices in venue management.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to handle challenging situations calmly and professionally.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills under pressure.
  • A proactive and hands-on approach to management and operations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including late nights and weekends.

Desirable:

  • Personal License Holder or willingness to obtain one.
  • First Aid training or willingness to undergo training.
  • Experience working within a student union or student-focused environment.
  • Understanding of stock control and financial procedures in a bar environment.
  • Experience in event management or coordinating large-scale club nights.

Pay is £14.44 an hour Rising to £16.44 with a personal license and if the event is without a full time member of staff.

Training include industry recognised qualifications in Fire Safety, Health and Safety, Conflict Management and Drugs Awareness.
