Hours: 2 hours per week (Approximate, Flexible)

Pay: £12.21 per hour

Location: Hybrid- University Campus and WFH

Duration: October 2025- June 2026

Role Description:

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Disability & Neurodiversity Subnetwork and work with the Student Equality Network to achieve its goals. The Subnetwork Leader role is integral to ensuring Disabled and Neurodiverse students’ opinions are heard within the Union. This role is ideal for anyone looking for experience in leadership, project management or EDI activity.

Responsibilities of Role:

  • Lead the monthly subnetwork meeting to gather information and opinions and facilitate conversations and act as its main point of contact for broader feedback which may need escalating to the Network or Students Union
  • Assist in developing meeting topics, creating prompt questions and identifying which external staff or groups should be invited to contribute to the meeting
  • Attend the main Network meeting on behalf of the subnetwork to share a summary of meetings, ideas and upcoming activities
  • Attend the University’s Disability & Accessibility meeting on behalf of the subnetwork to share a summary of our opinions, thoughts and ideas
  • Work with the Network and other leaders to plan and organise events that align with the subnetwork’s interests and goals
  • Support the Communications officer with Instagram and Website content to promote the subnetwork to increase involvement, engagement and membership
  • Work with your Subnetwork to create and contribute to the My Lived Experiences Project to share and promote diverse voices from the Disability & Neurodiversity subnetwork

Essential:

  1. Registered as a University of Surrey Student 
  2. Commitment to devoting the necessary time and attention to the role 
  3. Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and removing barriers to equality of opportunity 
  4. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and groups.
  5. Ability to work effectively as a member of the team

Desirable:

  1. Experience in leadership, public speaking, and/or student representation (e.g. Course Rep, Club and Society signatories, student ambassador).
