Hours: 2 hours per week (Approximate, Flexible)

Pay: £12.21 per hour

Location: Hybrid- University Campus and WFH

Duration: October 2025- June 2026

Role Description:

We’re looking for a proactive and creative Communications Officer to lead and support communications for the Student Equality Network. In this role, you'll collaborate closely with the Network, subnetwork leaders and key stakeholders to engage students and promote important initiatives across our Instagram and website. Content is guided by our comms plan, with freedom to introduce new topics and approach posting as you think best- videos, photos, text posts- you decide. You'll play a key role in shaping content and messaging, with access to creative tools such as CanvaPro, giving you the freedom to develop engaging and impactful communications.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) who is also looking to develop their experience in in digital content creation, marketing and student engagement within a dynamic and supportive academic environment.

Responsibilities of Role:

· Attend the monthly Student Equality Network Meetings and provide relevant updates

· Create promotional materials to raise awareness of the Network and its activity to increase engagement and membership in line with the Network communication plan

· Coordinate digital and Instagram content, including website updates, social media posts, news story posts, event posts and email newsletters, to keep students informed in line with the Network communication plan

· Support the promotion of the 'My Lived Experience' project, ensuring effective communication and outreach

· Act as a point of contact for communication-related inquiries and support Student Equality Network leaders in their communication needs

· Support with the promotion of events and awareness campaigns led by the Network

· Work closely with the Network and other key stakeholders to ensure consistent messaging and effective communication.

Person Specification

Essential:

  1. Registered as a University of Surrey Student 
  2. Commitment to devoting the necessary time and attention to the role 
  3. Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and removing barriers to equality of opportunity 
  4. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and groups.
  5. Ability to work effectively independently and meet internal deadlines

Desirable:

  1. Experience and/or interest in communications and content creation.
